Chemical Coating
A chemical coating is formed by electrochemical or chemical reaction of metals, giving a hard exterior layer which contains the metal compound.
It offers protection against corrosion and a surface suitable for powder coating and painting. As opposed to Anodizing, it preserves electric conductivity which may be desired in some cases.
Chemical coating is also considered the most cost effective among coating processes and can be clear or coloured, based on preference.
Types of Chemical Coatings
- Chromate – Primarily for aluminium surfaces
- Zinc and iron phosphate - Mainly applied on steel substrates
